Abstract:

Request for renewal of ECC: Current ECC will elapse on 20 April 2026 The Nguni Zambezi Houseboat cc was established in 2015 and entered a joint venture (JV) with the Kasika and Kabulabula Conservancies. Pangolin Voyager I (one) (PV I) is Namibia registered and operated as of 2015 on the Chobe River and anchored on the northern banks of the Chobe River. However, at the beginning of July 2025, PV I (old) was replaced by PV II (two). Its first guests were taken on board on 12 July 2025. Currently PV I is parked at Pole Pole, Namibia since beginning of July 2025 and is used as a base for staff accommodation and to store goods for PV II. The boat is no longer operational. The PV II is rated as a 5-star floating hotel on the Chobe River and accommodates predominately the European and American tourist market. PV II is anchored on the northern banks of the Chobe River and sails up and downstream of the Chobe River between Impalila Island and Serondela. This Background Information Document (BID) is to provide the EC of MEFT with a brief overview of the operation of PV I and PV II. The EMP which is to follow will expand on the current operation of PV II and its potential impacts on the environment with appropriate mitigation recommendations. PV II operates up and downstream of the Chobe River accommodating a maximum of 10 guests during peak holiday season.
